Exercise Your Mind & Body

Be prepared for a new and exciting podcast that talks about fitness, books and how to balance our daily lives with a mindful approach.  This podcast will release 2 episodes a month providing our listeners with  fun filled tips on Zen and the art of making a living with one fitness challenge packed in each show.

Each episode  will focus on a range of topics from personal achievement, to business, social media or how to live a healthy lifestyle.  Giving our listeners a full range of discussions without missing small pieces of valuable information.  This podcast will be structured in the style of a health magazine but with the entertainment of a talk show.  The target audience for this podcast are in the 25-65 age group who are old enough to be concerned about their health and young enough to take on the fitness challenge in each episode.  Listeners would range from fitness trainers, cyclist, runners, hikers, martial artist, writers and book readers.

CONTENT

On our show we will give the listener a  list of recommended books and a brief discussion of how these books are useful in the BOOKiDO lifestyle.  Short commentaries, interviews and music about health topics and current fitness exercises will be included in our podcast with a hip approach.  Each episode will provide the subscriber a sense of learning something new whether it is a technique, a new book to purchase, or a yoga school recommendation.  The podcast will be a mixture of both audio and video shows so that subscribers can have a choice to see the actual fitness tips being explained.  Most episodes will last from 4- 5 minutes long with a introduction, show discussion and conclusion with all the proper contact information.

COMPETITION

New York Times Book Review

This podcast is done with authors of bestselling books in a interview style which allows the author to talk about their book.  New York Times Book review has a huge following due to the popularity of the New York Times Bestseller listing that is read in each episode listing the authors number placements each week.  Hosted by Sam Tannehaus this is a easy listening podcast that doesn’t crowd a lot of material in each show.  The music is played perfectly between each transition with each introduction carrying  a different title.  The target audience for this podcast are New York Times readers, book readers, and people who are in the publishing industry so that they can follow up on what is going on with authors and publishing houses.

Fitness Rocks

Another good podcast that I enjoy subscribing to is Fitness Rocks hosted by Dr.  Monte Ladner who gives listeners practical health tips and up to date news on medical research developments.  Listening to the episodes I have found  his style of writing very easy to follow and remember helpful facts.  With tons of information releasing on health, diet, nutrition, and physiology this podcast gives you small doses of valuable commentary on what is going on in the health world.  His episodes have ranged in various topics from child obesity, Yoga, Cancer prevention to stress management providing ways to avoid a unhealthy lifestyle.  The www.fitnessrocks.org website is updated with audio files playing  each time a episode is recorded weekly.  Recently Dr. Monte has not released a podcast over a months due to a internal debated with himself on whether or not he should monetize Fitness Rocks podcast.  His podcast is targeted to both men and women  who are interested in their general health.

Yoga Today

This podcast has video footage of how to do simple Yoga postures without being in a classroom.  Hosted by various Yoga instructors each show gives the subscriber a good tip to practice meditation, stretches, breathing exercises and even how to make your own energy bar.  Yoga Today caters to yoga practitioners and beginners who would like to have yoga teachings in a digital format via ipod and itunes.  This podcast has a basic set up of providing the watcher a simple clean background with the instructor talking as a person does each position or exercise.  I like the video format that Yoga Today uses for each show giving the viewer an appealing setting to look at and confidence to try the moves themselves.

GOAL

Develop a growing audience of listeners who will spread the word that Exercise your Mind & Body is a good podcast and helpful.  We would like a subscriber list of 100 people.

DURATION

Each episode will last only 4-5 minutes releasing once a month.

Hi, Alvin, very creative and comprehensive idea. It seems more like a business podcast to me. In this case, I think it might work better if you get to think more about your consumers, that is who is gonna buy or read or consume your books. Also, defining a specific group of audiences will be practical to your podcasts.

    Hi Alvin,

I think your idea is great and you gave a clear persona. Maybe you can release the series more often and add the length? I assume that people may want to listen more when the topics are book reviews. Also, are you considering to put some interviews with the authors in your podcast?

I like the idea of book reviews, but I love the idea about the tips on how to exercise your mind and body in our daily lives. Are you using the books as a way to exercise our minds and our bodies? This part was not very clear.

Thank you. I hope to do a review on books that are helpful in our daily lives on how to tackle stress, money matters, practice yoga, and basic health tips.
The books will be the starting point to lead into the broader discussion of exercise your mind and body.

I agree with Rubi! The concept is really great and I think you could take it really far. I’m just not sure why you are limiting yourself to books. You could do it on articles, video or anything else. I don’t think focusing on books is really scaleable in the podcast format because there is too much content to digest and present.
