Editing Tips For Podcasting
After you have recorded all the audio you wanted for your show the next step is gathering it together for the editing process. This process includes removing audio, improving sound, and final cut that the subscribers would download. Editing is a skill that requires time and precision with peaks in audio, “introductions” and “outros”. Here are a few tips on helping you with your editing stages.
Delete Outtakes. Mistakes are going to happen whenever recording in the field or controlled setting. Many people slip up with words, wrong dates, long pauses, technical set up, or footage that will not make the final podcast. Whenever you are editing a interview there will be moments when you will have to remove parts to produce a clear and east listening podcast,
Introduction. The first sound the listener will hear is the introduction of your show thus the importance of a edited production. Write down a structure of what you hear your intro sounding like then sketch down the ideas on paper. Go to your digital set up and begin looking for the audio sounds you wrote down. With Audacity and Garage Band you can edit them very simply once you follow the time line you envision on paper. The idea my change once you begin editing so do not be surprised if you delete some files.
Edit Noise. When recording indoors make sure air conditioning units are turned off and any outside noises are reduced. When editing your podcast later you will notice that reducing noise saves you a headache. You can have good visuals and a great interview but without good sound you can never use it properly.
Outro. The conclusion of your podcast is often called your outro that ends the show . Editing this part of your podcast is a great way to end your hard work of recording and piecing together your final puzzle.
I say it again editing requires time, time and more time. Always use restraints in post-production recording so that you have a set of rules to follow. After hearing the same audio file over and over your ears can get tired and I suggest you take a walk or bike ride. When you come back from a outdoor activity start with fresh ears and begin editing your podcast where you left off.
