Supreme Court Nominee Is Labeled As Racist

May 30, 2009 at 10:32 pm (Politics, World News) (, , , , )

This week in politics President Obama publicly announced his nomination for the U.S Supreme Court.  The nominee Sonia Sotomayor will become the first Latino judge in the highest court and another female justice to join the traditionally male majority seating.

The announcement was not even 3 minutes underway before critics from the right argued that she was not fit for the job and labeled her a “racist” who purposely threw out lawsuits filed by white firefighters in New Haven, Connecticut. Her legal background and achievements are under a microscope by Republican representatives and talk show hosts who believe she abused her power in favor of race.

Only Retweet What You Like

May 30, 2009 at 9:25 pm (Social media, Twitter, microblogging) (, , )

Picture 11

With the growing demand of Twitter accounts many users are begining to ask a lot of questions on how to send direct messages, gain more followers, and the code of ethics of retweeting an update.  The term retweet better known as RT has become a normal practice for heavy users who chose to share an update, link or article of something they think is interesting.

Now that simple form of sharing has been modified by a new website that offers rewards for retweeting an updates even if you don’t find it worth sharing with your followers.  The new service website is called www.Retweet.it and works on a credit system of resending your tweets for you to other users.  In order to sign up you have to have 50 followers or more and you immediately earn 3 credits once you join.  For every two tweets that you RT from users of the site you will get one RT in exchange.

As much as I like to share interesting updates with others I think this service sort of cheats the process and could eventually turn something that was of value to the user to Twitter spam.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on this service.

Discard What Is Useless

May 8, 2009 at 10:45 pm (Podcasting, Technology, audio) (, )

Since podcasting as a form of business marketing is growing and more listeners are subscribing expect more ears to be critical of the content being released.

Which is why good editing is not an option but a duty when producing a audio or video podcast.  This post will focus on the audio editing aspect of podcasting and how to add elements to your recording.

Many podcasters prefer to go live and broadcast the production as it is being recorded I still recommend that some light editing is done before saving your work.  When recording try to avoid saying “umm” so that it doesn’t sound like you are unsure of what you are talking about.  Professional speakers practice hard for hours to not say “umm” but to many of us it is hard to avoid saying whenever looking for the right word to complete our sentences.  To edit this annoying word you would have to go back to your “wave file” which is the graphic presentation of your various recording sounds.

MTV Creates Social Media TV Show

May 4, 2009 at 5:22 am (Social media, marketing)

mtv

In response to low prime time ratings, multimedia giant MTV is now creating a live talk showthat uses various social media platforms during the program.  Advertisers were convinced that this would be MTVs biggest daytime talk show since TRL ended in November 2008.

As traditional media outlets battle to engage their audiences and produce relevant content, cable network MTV answered the call with the Alexa Chung Show.  The after school show will interact with young viewers by updating social network sites facebook and twitter 24 hours a day allowing them to upload videos onto the program website.  This show comes at a time when MTV in the past three months lost 18% of its viewers who rather watch videos online than television.  Stephen Friedman, MTV president, mentioned that advertisers would be reaching the “millennial generation” – those born between 1980 and 2000 – if they purchased airtime during the program.

In a recent MCDM class we discussed a few possibilities why Twitter has not reached the youth market yet and how come micro blogging was not popular amongst teenagers.  The question remains, will MTV’s approach bring more young users to micro blogging or is this a risk for traditional media companies to take.  How will this change television networks reactions to compete with a new “culture of sharing”?
