Introduction
When I first applied for the Masters in Communication in Digital Media program one of the first courses I knew I wanted to take was the Podcasting for business class. The class was one of the only hands on courses that I knew would be very helpful to me in the the digital communcation field. I knew a little about podcasting from being a disc jockey and an avid online news media reader and knew that in order for me to genuinely adapt to new age technology I would have to learn the in and outs of digital streaming.

Since podcasting as a form of business marketing is growing and more listeners are subscribing expect more ears to be critical of the content being released.
Which is why good editing is not an option but a duty when producing a audio or video podcast. This post will focus on the audio editing aspect of podcasting and how to add elements to your recording.
Many podcasters prefer to go live and broadcast the production as it is being recorded I still recommend that some light editing is done before saving your work. When recording try to avoid saying “umm” so that it doesn’t sound like you are unsure of what you are talking about. Professional speakers practice hard for hours to not say “umm” but to many of us it is hard to avoid saying whenever looking for the right word to complete our sentences. To edit this annoying word you would have to go back to your “wave file” which is the graphic presentation of your various recording sounds.

There is something comical about watching two couch potatoes talk about the latest news alerts and drinking beer at the same time. For the past few months I have watched closely at the online TV show Diggnation and its approach to the online community. If you still have no idea what Diggnation is then here is a good comparison: a social media version of Siskel & Ebert for the MTV generation.
Californian entrepreneur Kevin Rose started as a co-host of TechTV’s show The Screen Savers and eventually went on to create the social news website called digg. The popular news sharing website recently attracted 236 million visitors in 2008 according to Business Week. Rose created the website as a way for people to share stories, articles, videos and news alerts with a simple voting and commenting functionality. This ability to “digg” an article attracted over 36 million monthly visitors in March 2009 who voice their opinion on the most bizarre media stories, popular culture to technology updates and reviews.
